An Evaluation of Deferred Shading Under Changing Conditions

Deferred shading has gained popularity in recent years, but some aspects about its performance are still unclear. In this work we make an initial evaluation of deferred shading’s performance and evaluate it with respect to the number of light sources, the type of light sources, the illumination model, the complexity of the scene, and the influence range of the light sources. We compare measured performance values with each other and also compare them with the performance of traditional shading. The results show that in particular the number of light sources, the type of light sources, and the scene complexity are important factors that influence the performance of deferred shading.
